The F.A.S.T diet has nothing to do with not eating; nor is it a quick fix to dieting woes, as one might suspect. Yet the Dean family of 8 from Omaha, Nebraska, were somehow able to collectively shed 500 lbs using this F.A.S.T diet secret.
But what is it exactly that makes The F.A.S.T regime so successful, where others fail? Well, Families Always Succeed Together is a diet heavily reliant on the dieter’s social support network to make change happen. The diet’s creator Tony Dean says that weight loss success isn’t about weight loss at all; it’s about accountability. Losing weight is hard to do by yourself, as there are always outside influences and it’s a lot easier to just give in to desires. This diet helps to eliminate that pressure of going it alone.
You simply need “to create teams that each person must check in with every day. If anyone starts to slip, they have to call their teammate and say, ‘Help! I’m just about to eat a whole pizza by myself!’ It would be the teammate’s job to help them through their weak moment,” says Dean in his book The F.A.S.T Diet.
That is not to say that modifications to diet aren’t necessary as well, because this isn’t a fairy tale quick fix; this diet is the real deal. It relies on sensible eating and moderate exercise as staples to the regime. There is no diet menu and the diet does not prohibit the consumption of any food.
Yet in order to have that chocolate sundae or slice of pizza, a clearly unhealthy choice, the dieter has to get the OK from their partner. Here is Dean’s reasoning, “If anyone is tempted to cheat on their diet or exercise, they always have to call a teammate first and ask permission. Your teammate is responsible for trying to talk you out of cheating, but if he or she can’t, then you can cheat.”
With this diet there are no pills, fancy foods, or unrealistic goals that are sure to see the weight lost put right back on again. This diet can be done by everyday people with normal jobs and challenges. It is about staying motivated through teamwork, and it really is as simple as that.
